The portion of the property slated to host a park has remained a brown site even though the apartment building has opened. That’s because the developer had to make improvements to the site and surrounding infrastructure before turning it over to the Park District, officials have said. The former Edgewater Hospital complex was an eyesore for nearly two decades before being converted into upscale apartments in 2020. As part of that project, MCZ Development pledged to give a portion of the hospital site to the Park District to build a park. The perimeter will be enclosed by a metal fence and landscaped with trees, officials said at the meeting. It will feature a grass lawn circled by a peanut-shaped, concrete walking path.

Heather Gleason, director of Planning and Development for the Park District, said the park’s design includes rain-absorbing features and other environmentally friendly designs. Bass designed some of the most iconic corporate logos in North America, including the Bell System logo in 1969, as well as AT&T’s globe logo in 1983 after the breakup of the Bell System. He also designed Continental Airlines’ 1968 jet stream logo and United Airlines’ 1974 tulip logo, which became some of the most recognized airline industry logos of the era. Saul Bass (1920 – 1996) was instrumental in create a new American Minimalism in modern graphic design. With economy of color and utilizing almost rough, elemental forms his designs have become icons of the era, with many of his logo and corporate identity works still in use today.

“This is James Stewart in Rear Window,” says director Wes Anderson, when recalling his first impression of Hamilton, and his apartment, in Uncropped, the documentary he executive-produces. Rear Window – Hitchcock’s classic about an adventurous newspaper photographer taken off the job by a broken leg, abandoned to spy on his neighbours – is a formative film for the cinephile cameraman. The former Village Voice and New York Observer photographer James Hamilton lives in a small Manhattan apartment on University Place that also doubles as his studio.

It has always struck me as a little odd that there are two Case Study Houses numbered 20. Perhaps John Entenza, editor of Arts & Architecture magazine who spearheaded the Case Study House program (and himself lived in CSH #9), simply lost count when assigning the commissions. The first Case Study House 20(A) is the Stuart Bailey House located in the Pacific Palisades and designed by architect Richard Neutra in 1948. Designed by the architectural firm of Buff, Straub Hensman Case Study House 20(B) – the Bass House – is located in Altadena, California and was completed in 1958. Hitchcock Design Group is an award-winning landscape architecture, placemaking and urban design practice with offices in key markets across the United States.

Each person brings their particular skill set to the table, working in tandem to transform a theoretical idea into an enduring structure. And with our multi-cultural background, iDGroup encompasses a global array of styles and sensibilities. Going beyond expectation to bring dreams to life with absolute detail is what we do every day.

Where there is just a dirt site or a dilapidated building, Vance sees an interesting puzzle to work with site specific restrictions and imbue the mundane with a sculptural quality. According to Vance, you should listen to the property and let it guide the process. These are the questions that Vance knows will lead to a feasible, high quality design.

Parkinson's can be a "devastating" diagnosis, said Betsy Warren of West Lebanon – but it helps to be around others. Along with dance, she's taken up boxing and joined the board of Upper Valley Programs for Parkinson's, which runs various exercise programs. Block Club Chicago is a nonprofit news organization dedicated to delivering reliable, nonpartisan and essential coverage of Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods. The next step for the project is hiring a contractor so work can begin, officials said.

Richard and Diane Caruso have been leading the Parkinson's dance class at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center since 2017, drawing on their background in ballroom, Latin and other types of dance. They adapt the routines to work on issues facing people with Parkinson’s – things like balance, coordination, strength and mobility. They said the movements they practice in class have helped ease some of Sharon's symptoms, and she's incorporating them into her daily life. That's why people with Parkinson’s, and their partners, gather at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon every Tuesday for a weekly dance class. Those Facebook posts caught the attention of Young’s life and producing partner, Judith Mizrachy (Hamilton’s former New York Observer colleague) and became the impetus for Uncropped, a time capsule hardwired with a sense of melancholy with every page flip through the archive. Ironic that social media led to the rediscovery of Hamilton’s photography while it’s that very technology that makes that work impossible today.

Case study House 20(B) is one of my personal favorites of the Case Study Program.

We work to provide each client with a wide range of unique, innovative, and inspired interior concepts and work closely with chefs in the initial design phases to be sure we understand how they need the equipment and layout to work with their program. Our purpose is to improve people’s lives and the communities in which they live, work, and play through interactions with creative outdoor spaces and places. He describes his photography as “arranging chaos”, whether we’re looking at street scenes with kids playing or feminists protesting, or celebrities bringing that same disruptive energy to hotel room photo shoots.

Benches and ornamental lighting will line the walking path, with two meeting spaces with tables and chairs. Case Study House 20B differs is many ways from many of the other Case Study Houses with one of the primary differences is that the home is framed in wood rather than steel. Working closely with the owners – renowned graphic illustrator Saul Bass and his wife biochemist Dr. Ruth Bass – the architects were very interested in the possibilities of wood as it pertained to mass production in home construction.

With a final design now selected, work is slated to begin in the summer and be completed in the fall, Park District officials said at a community meeting Monday hosted by Ald. He's got great ideas, listens to what we want and the constraints we have, quick, respectful of budget and inspired. Neighbors at Monday’s meeting asked about adding a rain garden, a feature that was included in previous schematics.
